Houston, Texas
The Performing Arts Complex for the St. John School in Houston, Texas houses and expands the school’s academic and enrichment programs in the performing and visual arts. Over the course of the past 25 years, the student body doubled in size, necessitating a larger facility than the existing 1971 structure.

The arts facility includes a 668-seat theatre with fly loft and orchestra pit; rehearsal halls; two dance studios; music practice rooms; visual arts studios; and full support spaces for the theatres. It also houses classrooms, offices, a gallery, and an audio-visual library. The expanded facility is also available to local arts groups when not in use by the school.

The project was designed and built with long-term needs in mind. The Arts Center features architectural details similar to the School’s North Campus. The new building is situated around a courtyard, recalling Farish Hall’s original academic quad. This new space unites both the north and south campuses, thereby bringing the performing arts into the mainstream of school life.
