Hibbard Aquatic Center, Sherwin Health & Athletic Center and Kohn Squash Pavilion
The Athletic and Wellness Complex at Westminster School is a group of four buildings organized to create a courtyard that opens up towards the center of campus and designed to fit the scale of the campus context. The buildings were designed as functionally independent so that the project could be constructed in phases.
Phase 1, the Kohn Squash Pavilion, was completed in the Spring of 2000. The Squash Pavilion contains eight squash courts around a stepped viewing area with natural light from skylights above. The team rooms, locker rooms, and other support spaces are located on a second floor mezzanine overlooking the viewing area and squash courts below.
Phase 2, houses the Sherwin Health & Athletic Center, the Hibbard Aquatic Center and the Health & Counseling Center and was completed in 2003. This multipurpose building further reinforces the connection between the athletic fields, residential precinct and academic core. The Aquatic Center contains a competition pool with support facilities and a viewing area on the mezzanine floor. Future Phases 3 and 4 contain the Gymnasium with four basketball courts and its support facilities, and the Field House with four tennis courts surrounded by a running track.
