North Shore Performing Arts Center
Skokie, Illinois
The new performing arts center includes an 840-seat theater, lobby, backstage support spaces, and administrative office space for the Centre East Authority and the Wisdom Bridge Theatre, and a 350-seat multipurpose space. Located on a prominent 1.8-acre site in downtown Skokie, the Center projects a strong civic character.

The main theater is a multiuse space with a single balcony that sweeps around toward the proscenium. An intimate space, the farthest seat is only 56 feet from the stage. Maple hardwood tier fronts and ceiling panels along with custom designed light fixtures create a warm and inviting theater space. While the main project was under construction, GUND Partnership was commissioned to design an additional theatre component for the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts.

The flexible Northlight Theatre seats approximately 350 people in an amphitheater-style setting. The theatre is used primarily for drama performances. Its thrust stage is accessed by vomitories with steeply raked seats designed to provide excellent sightlines for the audience. Removable floor panels cover the theatre seats, and transform the theatre into a ballroom for special functions.
